My Thoughts on “The Devil’s Own”

I recently watched the movie “The Devil’s Own” and to be honest, it was a rollercoaster of emotions for me. The film, released in 1997, starring Brad Pitt and Harrison Ford, is an action-packed thriller that left me in awe.

The storyline revolves around a young Irish terrorist named Frankie McGuire (Brad Pitt) who seeks refuge in New York under the pretense of being a refugee seeking asylum. He is taken in by Tom O’Meara (Harrison Ford), an NYPD officer, who soon realizes that his new house guest is not exactly who he claims to be.

As the plot thickens, Tom finds himself struggling to balance his duty as a police officer with his newfound affection for Frankie and the personal demons that come with it.

The Casts

Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt

One of the strong points of this movie is the cast. Brad Pitt delivered an outstanding performance as Frankie McGuire, portraying a complex character with ease. Harrison Ford was equally impressive as Tom O’Meara, bringing his usual charm to the role while still showing range as an actor.

The supporting cast also did a fantastic job, adding depth and dimension to the movie’s world.

The cinematography in this movie is top-notch. The film captures the essence of New York City beautifully while also showcasing the rugged beauty of Ireland.

There are several shots in the movie that I found breathtaking, particularly during the action sequences. The camera work adds a level of intensity to already tense scenes.

The Soundtrack

Harry Gregson-Williams

Harry Gregson-Williams’ musical score for “The Devil’s Own” is haunting and beautiful, adding another layer of depth to the movie.

There are moments when the music swells, underscoring powerful emotions on screen. There are other times when the music drops out entirely, allowing us to focus on the dialogue or action.
