To All the Boys: Always and Forever – A Casual Review

As a hopeless romantic, I couldn’t wait to watch “To All the Boys: Always and Forever”. The third installment of the popular movie franchise based on Jenny Han’s best-selling novels was released on Netflix on February 12th, just in time for Valentine’s Day. So, grab your popcorn and let’s dive into my casual review of “To All the Boys: Always and Forever”.

The Storyline

The movie follows high school sweethearts Lara Jean Covey (Lana Condor) and Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo) as they navigate their senior year of high school, college applications, and uncertain futures. As Lara Jean dreams of attending Stanford University with Peter by her side, their plans are thrown into chaos when she gets rejected from Stanford but accepted to New York University.

Wedding Scene

The Plot

I have to admit, I was hoping for a little more drama in this movie. The plot is predictable and lacks the punch that made the first film so memorable. However, it still has its moments.

The Fact

Did you know that “To All the Boys: Always and Forever” was shot entirely on location in New York City? Director Michael Fimognari wanted to capture the city’s energy and vibrancy on film.

The Cast

The Cast

The chemistry between Lana Condor and Noah Centineo is as strong as ever, and their performances are heartfelt and genuine. Jordan Fisher also shines in his role as Lara Jean’s new friend and potential love interest, John Ambrose McClaren.

The Acting and Characters

Lana Condor delivers a standout performance as Lara Jean, capturing her character’s vulnerability and inner strength. Noah Centineo is charming as always, but his character’s lack of depth is starting to feel tired. It was refreshing to see more of Anna Cathcart as Lara Jean’s younger sister Kitty, though.

The History

The History

The Score and Popularity

The movie’s score is sweet and catchy, with songs like “Beginning Middle End” by Leah Nobel and “Got This Hope” by JP Saxe standing out. As for popularity, “To All the Boys: Always and Forever” has become one of Netflix’s most-watched original movies ever since its release.

The Evaluation

The Evaluation

I have mixed feelings about “To All the Boys: Always and Forever”. On one hand, I appreciate the movie’s exploration of growing up and making tough decisions. On the other hand, it feels like a watered-down version of the first film with less memorable moments.

The Cinematography

The movie’s cinematography is gorgeous, capturing the vibrancy of New York City and the dreamy quality of Lara Jean’s romantic fantasies. The use of warm colors and soft lighting creates a cozy and intimate atmosphere.

The Criticism

The Criticism

Some critics have called out “To All the Boys: Always and Forever” for its lack of depth and predictability. While I agree with those points, I still enjoyed watching it as a feel-good romantic comedy that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

The Production

Production for “To All the Boys: Always and Forever” began in July 2019 in Vancouver, Canada. The cast and crew filmed on location in New York City later that year.

The Dialogue

The Dialogue

“To All the Boys: Always and Forever” has its fair share of cheesy and corny dialogue, but that’s part of its charm. The conversations between Lara Jean and Peter are often sweet and romantic, but the movie also tackles more serious topics like cultural identity and family expectations.

The Scenes

The scenes in “To All the Boys: Always and Forever” are visually stunning, especially those set in New York City. From the lights of Times Square to the beauty of Central Park, the movie makes you want to book a trip to NYC ASAP.

The Gossip

The Gossip

Rumor has it that Lana Condor and Noah Centineo are dating in real life. While they haven’t confirmed anything, fans are shipping them hard.

The Soundtracks

As I mentioned earlier, the soundtracks for “To All the Boys: Always and Forever” are catchy and fun. I found myself humming “Beginning Middle End” long after the movie ended.

The Analysis

The Analysis

“To All the Boys: Always and Forever” is a charming coming-of-age movie about first love, friendship, and figuring out your future. While it may not be groundbreaking or particularly deep, it’s a nice escape from reality for a couple of hours.

The Special Effects

The movie doesn’t rely heavily on special effects, but the dreamy sequences where Lara Jean imagines her future with Peter are visually stunning.

The Crews

The Crews

“To All the Boys: Always and Forever” was directed by Michael Fimognari and written by Katie Lovejoy. The production crew also included cinematographer John Guleserian and costume designer Lorraine Carson.

The Conclusion

Overall, “To All the Boys: Always and Forever” is a fun and heartwarming movie that’s perfect for a cozy night in. It may not be as memorable as the first film, but it’s still worth watching for fans of the franchise. I can’t wait to see what Lana Condor and Noah Centineo do next!
